Piezomagnetic materials refer to ferrite materials that can undergo mechanical elongation or shortening (magnetostriction) in the direction of the magnetic field during magnetization. At present, the most widely used are nickel zinc ferrite Ni-ZnFe2O4, nickel copper ferrite Ni-CuFe2O4, and nickel magnesium ferrite Ni-MgFe2O4, among others.
Piezomagnetic materials are mainly used for ultrasonic and underwater acoustic devices that convert electromagnetic and mechanical energy, magnetoacoustic devices, as well as telecommunications devices, underwater televisions, electronic computers, and automatic control devices.
Piezomagnetic materials and piezoelectric ceramic materials (such as Barium titanate) have almost the same application field, but they are applied under different conditions due to their different characteristics. It is generally believed that ferrite piezoelectric materials are only suitable for frequencies within the tens of thousands of hertz range, while piezoelectric ceramics have a much higher frequency range.
In addition to the above classification by purpose, ferrite can also be divided into Ni Zn, Mn Zn, Cu Zn ferrite, etc. based on its chemical composition. Ferrites with the same chemical composition (series) can have various different uses, such as Ni Zn ferrite, which can be used as both soft magnetic materials and rotational or piezoelectric materials, with only some changes in formula and process
